SCI是科学引文索引。EI是工程索引。

美国《科学引文索引》(Science Citation Index, 简称 SCI )于1957 年由美国科学信息研究所(Institute for Scientific Information, 简称 ISI)在美国费城创办,是由美国科学信息研究所(ISI)1961 年创办出版的引文数据库。

SCI(科学引文索引)、EI(工程索引)、ISTP(科技会议录索引)是世界著名的三大科技文献检索系统,是国际公认的进行科学统计与科学评价的主要检索工具,其中以 SCI 最为重要。

科学引文索引以布拉德福(S. C. Bradford)文献离散律理论、以加菲尔德(E. Garfield)引文分析理论为主要基础,通过论文的被引用频次等的统计,对学术期刊和科研成果进行多方位的评价研究,从而评判一个国家或地区、科研单位、个人的科研产出绩效,来反映其在国际上的学术水平。因此,SCI是目前国际上被公认的最具权威的科技文献检索工具。

《工程索引》The Engineering Index是供查阅工程技术领域文献的综合性情报检索刊物。简称EI,1884年创刊,年刊,1962年增出月刊本。由美国工程信息公司编辑出版。每年摘录世界工程技术期刊约3000种,还有会议文献、图书、技术报告和学位论文等,报道文摘约15万条,内容包括全部工程学科和工程活动领域的研究成果。

EI每月出版1期,文摘万至万条。数据库每年新增500000条工程类文献,数据来自5100种工程类期刊、会议论文和技术报告,原始文献来自40余个国家,涉及的语言多达39种,其中3600种有文摘。年报道文献量16万余条。每期附有主题索引与作者索引;每年还另外出版年卷本和年度索引,年度索引还增加了作者单位索引。

SCI:评价标准

1976 年,ISI 在 SCI 基础上引出期刊引用报告(journal citation report,JCR),提供了一套统计数据,展示科学期刊被引用情况、发表论文数量以及论文的平均被引用情况。在 JCR 中可以计算出每种期刊的影响因子(Impact Factor,IF)。影响因子的高低,在一定程度上可以反应一个期刊的影响力。
