An Analysis of Causes of Li Shangyin's Personality & His Poetry Style Abstract: As one of the outstanding poets of late Tang dynasty, Li Shangyin achieves a new stage of Tang poetry by his grave, magnificent, elusive and plaintive poetry style, and becomes a poetry master. All poets' works is closely related to his aesthetic orientation. For example, Li Shangyin's unique poetry style is a product of the combination of time features,his own personality and other factors.His miserable destiny, inward and sentimental disposition and his unique style depend on each other. Both Li's pitiful family and his hard experienc in officialdom forms his sentimental, inward and touching disposition. And such-like disposition determines his unique poetry (and writing) style. In this paper, I attempt to re-read relevant historical facts, as well as analyze Li's poetical works from many different angles, to enter into the poet's inner heart, disclose causes for the formation of his tragic disposition, and deal with the inner relation between his unique style and plaintive disposition.
